Christmas present RAM upgrade for Mac

When I was about 10 years old, my parents purchased our first computer. If I remember correctly they chose a Macintosh at my brother's recommendation. From I remember, our school had Macs at that time. This would have been 1994, and after some searching I would guess it was the Macintosh Quadra 605, but really I have no idea.

The Mac computer provided hours of entertainment for me. I did my best to browse through all of the folders in the system, install loads of applications from CDs, eventually we tried out AOL and the internet over a dialup modem. It had an external modem, external CD-ROM drive, printer, etc.

There were some programs that wouldn't install because the computer didn't have enough RAM. I really had no idea what that meant, and it honestly didn't concern me too much.

Christmas eventually rolls around, we open up all sorts of sweet gifts, and towards the end my mom hands me another box. I could tell by her expression that she was excited for me to open this present. This of course immediately makes me excited and raises my expectations. At this point, I've probably opened a lot of really nice gifts, and I wasn't really sure what else to expect.

So, I open this box, and there's some small plastic containers inside with a piece of paper. Of course, I look totally confused, and my mom tries to explain that she has paid to have the RAM upgraded in our Mac. Once again, I really have no idea what that meant, but it started to sink in that this gift was probably the most expensive gift I received that year.

Regardless it was very underwhelming, but looking back I can really appreciate that my mom was trying to keep our computer up to date with technology. :)

My dad being sick

When I was probably in 5th or 6th grade I came home from school one day, and for whatever reason my brother and sister weren't at home with me that day. That was probably a pretty rare occurrence. None the less, not really an issue, because normally my dad would be home by about 4:15 PM, which couldn't be more than 30 minutes or so.

Since I'm home alone, I take the opportunity to make a snack(which is normal), and while the microwave is melting cheese over my chips, I'm singing, dancing, jumping on furniture and then I make my way down the hallway to the back bathroom. I have no idea why, other than that was normally the bathroom I used and shared with my dad. As I pop open my parents bedroom door to head towards the master bathroom, I find my dad in bed, clearly confused about all of the noise I was making.

I came to find out he was home sick that day, which basically never happened, and he made sure to give me a hard time later for making so much noise!

Turning over a full shopping cart!

I'm really not sure how old I was. I'm going to guess around 10 or 11 years old. Old enough to be strong enough to turn over a shopping cart full of groceries, but apparently not old enough to realize it was happening accidentally at the same time.

I barely remember that many details with this one, but I'll try to write as much as I can.

I was at the store with my mom and dad, probably at least one sibling, but I can't remember to be honest. I'm not sure why my dad was there, because he normally wouldn't have gone to the store with us. He hardly ever went grocery shopping.

We were at a less than common grocery store in my hometown, maybe Aldi's...no it was next to Kmart I think, but I can't remember the name. They had a small VHS rental store inside the grocery store.

Oh well, I can't remember the name. We had already filled the cart, checked out, and I was pushing the cart toward the exit door. [Sidenote: I was allowed to push the cart all the time when I went to the store. I think my mom let me just to help keep my occupied and not pulling things off the shelves. I think when I first started I can remember running over her heels from the back enough that she had to constantly remind me not to follow her so closely.] So, as I'm making the pretty slow, pretty simple curve out of the check out line, the inside back wheel seems to be having trouble turning. I'm not sure if it was stuck on some debris, just tight with grime or what, but it's causing the cart to continue turning to the left more and more as I push from the back. Before I know it, as I'm pushing harder and harder to go forward the cart is almost sideways and now pushing from the same angle just tips the cart on its side and over into the floor!

I was horrified. Obviously I had no intention of tipping the cart over. I've never seen anything. Like this since or to this day. The cart was pretty full, not much really shifted. I can remember a container of cottage cheese falling out and cracking open, but it only made a very small mess and was quickly cleaned up. My parents are probably equally surprised as me, and my dad is able to walk over and lift the cart from its side back upright on its wheels again.

I'm assuming my parents realized it was an accident and there wasn't any harsh scolding just a stern reminder to be careful.

That being said, I can remember brig probably 13 or so in Walmart with just my dad. In a somewhat crowded area, I managed to just barely snag a 6 pack of root beer that was stacked. I was moving pretty slowly, so I pretty much watched it in slow motion as I just drag the 6 pack of glass bottles onto the floor. Most of them break and send root beer all over the floor. A Walmart employee was close by and quickly told me not to worry about it as he began to clean it up.
