When we were in London over Thanksgiving 2016, we came out of the tube (subway), walked up the street towards a pub we had looked up online in the Piccadilly Circus area of town, which is normally extremely bright like Times Square in NYC, but as we walked down a street we noticed that the entire side of street had no lights or electricity.
We went into the pub anyway, hoping the power would come back on soon, but it didn't. There were plenty of people just eating and drinking by candlelight at that point, didn't seem to mind at all. We moved on down the street and found somewhere else to eat.
